AAE Level 2 Diploma - Art & Design

This class-based course is aimed at adults wishing to further develop their artistic skills in a supportive and inclusive environment. Students may have already studied an intro Level Art & Design course with us or you may have other personal or professional art experience including lesire sessions - we welcome all applications.

Overview

This course is designed for adult learners who wish to explore and extend their experience in working creatively.

You may have studied an introduction level Art & Design already with us or another provider OR you may be a practising artist looking to develop your drawing and painting skills.

Study one day per week in our studio environment from 10 - 4pm.

Class-Based Course

The course is split into 5 modules; Imaginative Landscapes, Dynamic Still Life Studies, Portraiture, Fabulous Florals and Water & Light. You will learn how to use oils, acrylics, watercolour and pastels.

You will attend one day per week, Thursdays 10-4pm, at our studio in Norwich, Sprowston. The first 4 weeks of each module will be lessons related to the theme, involving step-by-step demos and paint alongs and then you will be set a small challenge based on all of the skills and techniques that you have learned up to that point. You will be given the fifth and sixth week to complete this challenge, in class with guidance. You will be given feedback for your mini challenge.

 

 

If you are looking to hone your creative skills into being able to produce successful artwork or you are considering further building your portfolio of work then this course is for you.

 

How it works

There are no essays, written evaluations or formal exams. You will be given feedback, encouragement and points to take forward relating to each module.

Although this is not an accredited course and does not attract UCAS points, successful completion of all modules will result in an Art Academy East Level 2 Diploma and you will be issued with a certificate.

How much does this art course cost?

£2595. Fees need to be paid in full to confirm your place on the course.

This art course consists of 5 modules - 32 sessions in total. Start date Thursday 5th September 2024. There are breaks in line with Norfolk County Council school holidays.


 

Do I need to buy all my art materials? 

Materials are not included in the cost of this course. You will need to source your own materials necessary for each lesson/module. There will be a Level 2 Diploma kit available to purchase (contents to be confirmed). We have designed the lessons to use materials and equipment that are readily available or that you are more than likely to already have. We will send learners a suggested kit list, some of which can be purchased from our materials store.

when does this art course start?

Thursday 5th September 2024.

How many days will I need to study?

You will attend one day per week on Thursdays 10-4pm. If you wish to complete further study at home this is entirely up to you and not compulsory.

will there be lots of written work?

No, we have designed this course to focus on practical skills and techniques. For each module challenge we will ask you to talk about the piece of work you have created; further guidance will be given. It will be a simple reflection exercise that will help your tutor feedback on what it is you have created and what you were trying to achieve.

do i have to complete all modules/weeks?

Yes, full completion of each module is required to achieve the AAE Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design.

How do i record/store/keep my artWork?

You can create and store your artwork in a sketchbook or keep your individual pieces separate.

Will i sit an exam or test?

No, your artwork will be reviewed by tutors at the end of each module and you will be given full feedback about your development and progression.

I am a complete beginner, is this art course suitable?

This course is aimed at those who have already undertaken some previous study in Art & Design OR those who have practised creatively in their life and are looking to develop their painting & drawing skills. Please contact us to discuss - all applications are welcome.

What qualifications do I need for this art course?

There are no specific qualification entry requirements for this course. We will assess your application on it’s own merits and allocate places accordingly.

Can I go straight onto University from this art course and How many UCAS points is it worth?

This course in not accredited by an awarding body and therefore does not attract UCAS points. It has been designed using our knowledge and experience of working with accredited qualifications and is aimed at those who wish to focus on developing their artistic skills and techniques in order to be able to produce higher quality artwork. You will build a strong portfolio of evidence to display your creative ability which can then be shown to Universities for consideration as a mature student on a degree level qualification.
